Feeling Cheesy? Let Go of Food Shame

Sometimes you just need to enjoy a guilty pleasure! I was elated when my husband asked me to make macaroni and cheese for dinner tonight. It has butter. It has cream cheese. It has four cups of shredded cheese. It is delicious!

Before anyone thinks I’m endorsing a diet rife in saturated fat and refined carbohydrates, let me assure you that there needs to be balance. Along with the decadent mac n’ cheese, we enjoyed fresh salads made with spinach and lettuce from our organic garden. And we almost never eat dessert.

We don’t make these choices because we label foods as “bad.” We simply choose to eat 99% of our meals at home using as many fresh homegrown or homemade ingredients as we can. This way, we don’t have to feel guilty about what we consume. We enjoy our food, even if that includes a side dish that would be banned by low-carb, low-fat, and other restrictive diets.

If you’re struggling with food shame, let go and embrace well-being. Say no to feeling guilty about what you eat, and say yes to a balanced diet that keeps you healthy both mentally and physically.
